Desert Mirage HS 2020

We are Generation Z , from the minute we enter the world we connect to everybody, nobody and nothing is left out. We are Generation Z , a generation that since 1995 has learned to proliferate connections with the flourishment of the digital age. We are Generation Z through beginnings, to its zenith in 2015. Making interpersonal one on one associations, social, and instantaneous media relations is an innate skill we possess. Flashback: Our innate ability to relate with each other begins in our brightly colored classrooms not to be the first one to grab the 64 pack of crayons, but rather the first ones to place our fingertips on the keys of the computers, with the giant screens. By working together there in our classroom we learn how to manage and maneuver the online game, Ticket to Read. Gaining electronic points to create the best clubhouse we can imagine. We learn what being connected means before we can spell it. Later at middle school, we learn from our friends how to text. We teach each other to introduce our faces to Retrica. We get A’s on live online games that we play with

opponents in opposites sides of the globe, instead of paying attention during PE class where we end up with a C for not listening to our teacher. And finally, at Desert Mirage, we are professionals at Tweeter and Facebook, sneaking a reply on our mobile device, in between Ms. Rochin’s Spanish lessons. We spend our weekends socializing with our fellow “Homelanders” posting complaint memes about the scorching heat everywhere from Thermal to the Salton Sea, and anywhere in between. Sitting on our front lawns, waiting for the sound of the ice cream truck to buy a paleta, or making runs to our local Patty’s for a “raspado” If we don’t have too much homework from our favorite English teacher, Tafoya. We message and post pictures for everyone to see that we are dipping our feet at the community pool, surrounded by its bright blue rod irons and neatly decorated with a painting of “Welcome to Mecca,” or enjoying a game of basketball in the cool AC at the Mecca Boys and Girls club. We aren’t detached, not acquaintances. We are all linked because we are Generation Z.
