EMALEE REPKA DOESN’T LIKE THE SPOTLIGHT. HER STRENGTH IS MORE BEHIND THE SCENES. The audio-visual (AV) student has been involved in theatre and choir over the years but has found her niche behind the camera. “I started off wanting to write books,” the senior said. “But then I started writing screen plays and that has become my thing. Couple that with my love of videography and here I am. Theatre and writing sort of meshed together in AV.” AV Steering Repka Towards a Future Hands-On Experience With movies, you see a book as a visual and how the author intended it. “With books, you have to really use your imagination. With movies, you see a book as a visual and how the author intended it.” Repka will earn her Associates Degree at San Jacinto Community College over the next few years, as she continues to navigate her course in the cinematic world. “I want to do this as a career,” she said. “I really want to also develop my screen writing.” So, what is her genre? “I really like the show, Psych ,” she laughed. “I also like fantasy films like, The Nightmare Before Christmas . My favorite director is Steven Spielberg, of course, and I love to read Rick Raven.” Getting hands-on experience in high school is giving Repka a head start for a potential future craft.
