S.M. Arnold, Inc. offers the most extensive line of cleaning maintenance accessories in the United States for the professional, industrial and consumer markets. S.M. Arnold, Inc. firmly believes in the diversification of its line of cleaning products. Many of the products that we distribute are manufactured here at S.M. Arnold, Inc., centrally located in St. Louis, MO. The 1920's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. was founded in 1928 by Sanford Arnold - known throughout the industry as "Sandy". He specialized in the sale of chamois and natural sponges to distributors, hardware stores, general stores, and drug stores. The 1930's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. expanded their product line by manufacturing lambswool polishing bonnets and discs. The 1940's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. included cellulose sponges and polishing and compounding discs into their product line. Also, S.M. Arnold, Inc. became the first company to manufacture lambswool wash mitts. The 1950's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. added poly sponges and began manufacturing windshield bug sponges, scrubber sponges and synthetic wash mitts. The 1960's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. was firmly established as a leading manufacturer and distributor of car care products (non-chemical). The 1970's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. introduced Water Sprite® the superior PVA drying cloth. S. M. Arnold also added window squeegees and brushes to their product line. The 1980's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. established a new knitting mill to manufacture polishing cloth, cheesecloth, chenille, terry knit towels and red shop towels. The 1990's - S.M. Arnold, Inc. installed a compounding and polishing pad production department, expanding the product line. S.M. Arnold, Inc. also began the manufacturing of both professional and retail brushes in its full line brush department. The 2000's - S.M. Arnold, Inc., celebrated its 80th year in business this decade! We launched Marine Master™ - marine cleaning accessories, Sweep Master™ - extensive selection of brooms and brushes, Educator’s Cleaning Tools™, and S.M. Arnold Select™! ONLY THE BEST - GENUINE CHAMOIS Chamois is the inner split of a sheepskin or alpine antelope 100% fish oil tanned. This is the industry standard as described in Standard CS99 of The Sponge and Chamois Institute and for many years by the FTC. The Chamois is used for drying, for washing windows and mirrors and when dry for polishing surfaces to a high shine. Chamois' unique qualities and characteristics vary significantly from other leathers. The inner split of the sheepskin, when 100% fish oil tanned, is soft with a relatively open fiber structure that readily absorbs liquids and residual dirt particles and is able to easily release liquids and dirt for superior long-lasting use and repeat performance. Other leathers, such as goat skin, are dense and tough and will not perform in the same manner even when tanned. As a result, goat skin leathers are unable to release dirt particles, which become compacted in the skin interfering with performance. Chamois' distinctive yellow lustrous color is created during the fish oil tanning process. In order to duplicate that color in non-Chamois leathers, such as goat or pig skin, dyes are frequently used. Dyes may be released on the vehicle or material on which it is used.
