Connecting with Communities During the 26 th Annual Pro Bono and Community Service Fair By Katie Liss, CBA Editorial Board Member

The Chicago legal community’s strong commitment to making a difference and helping those in need through pro bono work, community service, and mentor- ing was highlighted on October 23 rd at the CBA Young Lawyers Section’s 26 th Annual Pro Bono and Community Ser- vice Fair, co-sponsored by the Chicago Bar Foundation and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Over 200 lawyers, law students, and other legal professionals met with 38 different legal aid, pro bono,

community service, and mentoring orga- nizations at Skadden’s offices to learn how to get more involved in pro bono work. This fun and worthwhile event was just one part of the successful 15 th Annual Pro Bono Week hosted by the 2019 “Con- necting with Communities” Pro Bono Week co-chairs, Judge Nichole C. Patton from the Circuit Court of Cook County and Kate Shank, from Legal Aid Chicago. With only about 400 full-time legal aid lawyers serving more than 1.2 mil-

lion low-income individuals eligible for legal aid services in the Chicagoland area, the need is great for attorneys and law students to volunteer and help these individuals in need of legal assistance. Even if you missed this event, you can always volunteer and/or make a financial contribution.
