Sincere Gratitude By Daniel Berkowitz

with all our affinity bar partners to make the All Bar Social a well-attended smash was so valuable and is just one example of your great work this year. I have no doubt you will have a fantastic year as Chair. Thank you to my Second Vice-Chair, Kenny Matuszewski. I appreciate all you have done acting as a direct line from the officers to the committee leaders. I cannot remember a bar year when our Executive Council meetings were so well attended by committee chairs and vice-chairs. We were able to hear about all the great work the committees have done this year. I can’t wait to see what you do with your turn as Chair. While I am on the subject, thanks to all who served as a YLS Committee Chair or Vice-Chair this year. You provide so much value for our members, and we are better for your efforts. Thanks to our Member Services Man ager, Gavin Phelps. No one has done more this year to bring new and exciting events to our members. We were able to hold, for the first time, a Solo/Small Firm Job Fair, a Transactional Negotiation Competition, and a Diversity Week slate of programming. These events are proven successes, and I am sure they will become annual events on our calendar. Thanks to our Public Service Manager, Maggie Mendenhall Casey. As anyone who has worked with her knows, Maggie is a get-stuff-done operator. She did an excellent job coordinating our YLS Fun draiser, the Majestic Masquerade Ball, which raised nearly $30,000 for the CBA’s Lawyers in the Classroom Program. I could always trust you with accomplish ing whatever task you were assigned, and that is more valuable to anyone in a leadership position than you can possibly know.

I t has been one of the greatest honors of my professional career to serve as the Chair of The Chicago Bar Asso ciation Young Lawyers Section. But the honor is not mine alone. As any good leader knows, countless other people con tribute to the success of an organization as large and as active as ours. So, if you will indulge me (and at this point, when I am almost out the door, it would be cruel not to), please allow me to show some gratitude to the incredible team who sup ported me as Chair this year. I want to give a special thank you to our YLS Administrative Director, Emily Anderson. I should have known how invaluable she would be when she agreed to help with the All Bar Social at the beginning of the Bar Year despite not being officially on the payroll. Since then, she has ensured that we stay on track with the many events we host by providing weekly (or daily) reminders of upcom ing deadlines and generally making sure this machine runs smoothly. Thanks for all that you do to help the YLS continue functioning at a high level. Thanks to my First Vice-Chair, Marty Gould. You have shown an unrivaled abil ity to bring together members and non members this year. Your work liaising
