YLS Welcomes New Leadership at Annual Meeting by Ann Glynn, CBA Public Affairs Director

Berkowitz of Aronberg Goldgehn as Immediate Past Chair. In addition to welcoming new leader ship, the YLS honored members who have demonstrated outstanding project leader ship and excellent committee service: • The David C. Hilliard Award for Outstanding Committee Service was awarded to the YLS Public Outreach – Serving Our Seniors Committee, Paige Fox, Attorney at Law, and Maureen Loughran, Duggan Bertsch. • Brittany Kaplan of Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath was recognized with the Milton H. Gray Award for Out standing Project Leadership. • The Rising Star Award for a Leader with Exceptional Promise was presented to Andre Hunter of Gordon & Rees. • The Terrence M. Murphy Award for Leaders with Substantial Impact on the Section was awarded to Gavin Phelps of Phelps LLC. The YLS provides excellent opportunities for professional growth, community service, and networking to its approximately 7,000 members, who include attorneys in their first 10 years of practice and law students. The YLS offers 28 committees, including substantive practice areas and public service offerings; implements member and public service projects; and hosts numerous semi nars and networking events. T he Young Lawyers Section of The Chicago Bar Association intro duced a new Executive Council and Martin D. Gould as their next Chair at the YLS Annual Meeting in June at CBA headquarters. YLS members were also honored at the reception for their service and contributions throughout the year. Gould is a partner at Romanucci & Blandin LLC, where he works in the firm’s complex litigation and catastrophic injury group, representing individuals and classes of victims in wrongful death, toxic exposure, medical malpractice, nursing home negligence, auto and truck ing accidents, construction and work place accidents, sexual abuse, product defects, and airline crashes. He is actively involved in numerous legal organizations, including as a Junior Council Member of Child USA and Co-Chair of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’s Young Law yers Division. He also serves on the CBA’s 150th Anniversary Committee.

“It is a tremendous honor to serve as YLS Chair this year and to have the opportunity to carry on the YLS’s long and successful history of providing vital services, networking, and education to our thousands of members as well as the broader legal community and public,” said Gould. “The current Executive Board and I have been fortunate to have been mentored by so many great leaders within the CBA and are very excited about this upcoming year’s agenda.” Joining him on the 2023-2024 Execu tive Council of the YLS are Kenneth Matuszewski of Goldberg Segalla LLP as First Vice-Chair; Gavin Phelps of Phelps LLC as Second Vice-Chair; Kernisha Padilla of Latham & Watkins LLP as Member Service Manager; Theodore Kon topoulos of the Internal Revenue Service as Public Service Manager; Aleksandra Petro vic of Damisch & Damisch Ltd. as Project Officer; Stephanie Moon of Armstrong Teasdale LLP as Project Officer; Alexan
