YLS Environmental Law Committee: Get Active By Rachel Strieber
The YLS Environmental Law Commit tee convenes to discuss legal and scien tific aspects of environmental and energy law practices. Environmental law governs how humans can interact with the envi ronment; energy law governs the manage ment, transmission, and use of renewable and nonrenewable energy. These practices are multifaceted and can include litiga tion, transactional work, and counseling clients to comply with the complex regu latory and statutory schemes that govern the use of energy, control pollution, reme diate contaminated property, and con serve and manage natural resources. The
Committee also provides resources and a platform to explore career paths for law students and young lawyers who are inter ested in environmental law. This year’s CLE-credit meeting topics include a discussion of the Supreme Court’s historic decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and the current state of administrative law. Other topics include how environmental law and regu lations may change with the new presi dential administration; a PFAS regulatory update; a breakdown of superfund site forensics; defining environmental justice; and the basics of energy law.
The Committee meets every other month on the first Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. (unless otherwise indicated). Members plan to host a networking event for envi ronmental law practitioners sometime in March 2025. Additionally, the Commit tee is partnering with the Illinois State Bar Association to host an environmen tal law and policy seminar May 22 and 23, 2025.

YLS Health and Hospital Law Committee: New Year, New You By Marisa McGrenera and Mark T. Carper
The YLS Health and Hospital Law Com mittee is dedicated to helping young law yers and law students who are interested in health law connect with each other and learn more about the depth and breadth of topics that this area of law offers. The Committee aims to highlight the wide variety of practice areas that make up health and hospital law, including transactions, litigation, regulatory, policy, life sciences, government, and more. It hosts bi-monthly meetings that feature various aspects of health law through
presentations from practicing attorneys. The Committee’s most recent December meeting featured a panel of young lawyers active in health law. The panelists dis cussed key aspects of their practices and shared insights and lessons learned from their varied career paths. The Committee’s top priority for the 2024-2025 bar year is to increase member engagement by providing opportunities for learning and professional growth. Join the Committee to get involved and learn more about the dynamic, challenging,
and evolving practice of health and hospi tal law.
Marisa McGrenera, Chair of the YLS Health and Hospital Law Committee, is an Associate at Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP, practicing in health transactions and regulatory matters. Mark T. Carper, Vice Chair of the YLS Health and Hospital Law Committee, is an Associate at Paul Hastings, LLP, practicing litigation focused on life sciences.
