L ouisiana has a long casino history, dating back to riverboat properties launching in 1992. The Cajun State market has greatly expanded since those early days and is a popular stop for gamblers throughout the South. New Orleans remains a popular vacation spot and players can now mix in some gaming with Louisiana’s only commercial land-based casino, Harrah’s, with the famed nightlife of the French Quarter, Bourbon Street and jazz clubs as well as the unmatched cuisine. In northwestern Louisiana, look for a cluster of riverboat casinos with dockside gaming in the Shreveport Bossier City area. The region offers a great party atmosphere and some music festivals as well. Farther south, in Lake Charles, you’ll find plenty of water sports along with excellent opportunities for some time in nature, including the Creole Nature Trail offering the chance to see herons, spoonbills, cormorants and other shore birds, along with the occasional alligator. The top property in the state repeats again from 2021, but comes with a name change. The Eldorado is now known as Bally’s Shreveport and is only a short hop to dozens of dining and entertainment options. Onsite is a 403-room hotel with numerous amenities, some great restaurants and a spa. It’s an all-around winner, attracting many gamblers from the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth area. Bally’s scored top honors for Favorite Casino Resort To Vacation At, Best Casino, Best Comps, Best Poker Tournaments and top finishes in numerous other categories. The property continues offering gamblers an excellent option. The gorgeous Golden Nugget Lake Charles brought plenty of compliments from gamblers as well and finished in second again this year. The property came out ahead again for Best Hotel, Best Spa, Best Golf Course, Best Players Club, Best Table Games, Best High Limit Room, Casino Where You Feel The Luckiest, Best Reel Slots, Best Carnival Games and Best Live Poker. Gamblers also love the sports betting scene and the Nugget took four of five categories in this area: Best Overall Sportsbook, Best Betting Options, Best Prop Bets and Best Sportsbook Promotions. Just as last year, L’Auberge Casino Resort Lake Charles also found a third-place finish for Best Overall Gaming Resort. L’Auberge has the state’s Best Hotel Lobby, Best Suites, Best Pool, Best Slot Tournaments and Best Craps.
