T he largest alpine lake in the United States, Lake Tahoe straddles the Nevada-California border, providing a regional wonderland. Gambling is not the only attraction, and for many, it’s not even the main event. Historically, thousands and thousands visit the area each year for swimming, fishing, boating, water skiing, hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing and other outdoor adventures. A short distance to the northwest is the Tahoe National Forest, bringing in plenty of skiers each year to hit the slopes. This area is a national treasure even if there wasn’t a single casino in the area. The north is home to the Hyatt Regency, Tahoe Biltmore, Crystal Bay and Cal-Neva, which straddles the state line with the casino in Nevada and the hotel in California. The Park Companies took over the property in 2014 and gave the resort a $40 million facelift. It reopened in 2015 and it continues earning top votes from casino players.
