C onnecticut giants Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods continue dominating the Best of Gaming rankings for this region. Foxwoods debuted in 1992 and Mohegan Sun opened its doors four years later. Players love both properties and they once again come out on top in the annual Casino Player poll despite competition from Rhode Island, where Twin River Casino started offering table games in 2013 to go with slots that were added in 1992 at the former Lincoln Park greyhound track. Massachusetts has joined the casino mix, too. Plainridge Park Casino, a slots parlor at a harness racing facility about 35 miles from Boston, opened in 2015, and MGM Springfield opened to much fanfare in August 2018, followed most recently by Encore Boston Harbor. And that’s before you even get to the more than 6,000 slots, 400 tables and poker room, along with another 1,400 slots and 50 tables at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods. Casino Player readers recognized the property’s luxury again, making the resort Best Hotel Lobby, Best Golf Course, Best Casino, Best Players Club, Best VIP Services, Best Poker Tournaments, Best Video Slots, Best Bingo, Best Sports Betting Options and Best Sportsbook Promotions. Mohegan Sun is also a brilliant resort, one of the nation’s largest casinos with more than 6,000 slots, 350 tables, 29 restaurants and a luxury hotel. The property unveiled the $130 million, 130-floor Earth Tower in 2018, with 400 rooms to complement the 1,200 at the existing Sky Tower. The massive and high-class resort earned honors for Best Pool, Favorite Casino Resort To Vacation At, Best High Limit Room, Best Craps, Best Overall Sportsbook and Best Sports Prop Bets. Gamblers especially awarded Encore Boston Harbor with some nice compliments as Best Hotel, Best Suites, Best Spa, Best Promotions and Best Table Games.
