Most of your properties were opened during the height of Covid. Were there any specific reasons why you did that? What were your most difficult challenges? We had already raised the financing and were planning on building during that timeframe. Covid quarantine was challenging in some regards, but also gave us a little extra time to build without a looming opening date as pressure. What property are you most proud of? Cheapshot is unique in so many ways and the show is constantly chang ing, so I always find myself there with guests. I have become less of a night owl so the 8 p.m. show works well with my lifestyle. If I started a night out in Las Vegas at 6 p.m., what would be the ideal itinerary at Corner Bar Management proper ties? You’d start with dinner at Peyote, which you’d want to time around dusk and sit on the patio. You’d follow that with a quick stop over at Lucky Day for some mezcal, and then straight into Cheapshot to watch Mavericks, the variety show byAmy“Miss Behave”Saunders. Then you’ll pop intoWe All Scream for a bit of dancing and then finish the night off with a night cap at the Laundry Room. What does the future hold for Corner Bar Management? I want to add more venues to the downtown portfolio and layer more excitement to the block. We spent a great deal of time building the best team possible and we are ready to expand with them.We have our eye on a few venues and will be announcing some new projects soon. ´
involved in countless art installations, concepts and pieces in Las Vegas, including his coordination of a large-scale mural project at the Plaza Hotel & Casino, which won the Mayor’s Urban Design Award in 2017.He also curated two large-scale art pieces at the Downtown Grand Hotel & Casino, known as “Transmigrations,” the world’s largest aug mented reality mural created by Camila Magrane; and“Slat City,”a 5,600 square-foot colorful and abstract mural,by Josef Kristofoletti. He has sold large-scale installations toWynn Las Vegas,TheVenetian Hotel, the Fash ion Show Mall Plaza and other notable Las Vegas destinations. Doherty’s work, which prioritizes communal experiences and social engagement, brings together compelling art, edgy entertainment, progressive design, imaginative cocktails and innovative cuisine. He’s also focused on lower-populated areas of Las Vegas to breathe life into dilapidated buildings and upgrade neighborhoods along the way. I had a chance to ask Ryan a few questions on my last visit and here’s what he had to say. CP: Out of all the areas in Las Vegas, what drew you to the Fremont Street area? RD: In 2011 I was doing business with Tony Hsieh and he was embarking on his ambitious Downtown Project. I built Commonwealth, a two-story bar on the corner of 6th and Fremont, and that was the start of my downtown adventure. There’s a saying, “Too Much of a Good Thing.” Did that saying ever cross your mind with the opening of each new property? It sure has.The goal is to keep building interesting venues without cannibalizing your existing business. I am looking to improve the neigh borhood so we will inevitably be building more spaces.
