TAKING OUT THE TRASH

S ports might not be as fun without the ability to razz our scoreboard friends. With the NFL season approaching,Vegas Insider recently released a survey that tried to determine which team’s fans are the biggest trash talkers in football. The website also asked about which players, teams and coaches run their mouths the most as well. The survey came up with some interesting results. In total,75% of respondents reported mixing in some trash talk as part of their own fandom.Of those,44% still think the practice is rude. When it comes to who that criticism and talk is directed at,almost one third (32%) is directed at referees, 28% toward players, 14% to other fans, and only 2% trash talk the coaches.A sizable number of fans (53%) admitted to trashing their own team with 76% taking part because of a bad play, 55% annoyed by a player, 49% angry the team lost, and 43% annoyed at the coach. So who are the biggest trash talkers? Fans voted Patriots fans in the top spot, followed by the Cowboys and then the Eagles. The Steelers and Packers follow in fourth and fifth. Eagles fans seemed to resonate with voters, earning the top spot for“most intimidating,”“most savage,” and “fan bases that will leave you speechless.”The Cowboys haven’t been to a championship game since 1995 and thus earned the title for trash talkers who can’t back it up, followed by the Browns, Jets, Bears and Lions. When it comes to players and coaches, Bill Belichick earned the top spot for coaches and Aaron Rodgers for quarterbacks.Who earns the all-time trash talker? That honor goes to Deion“PrimeTime”Sanders. It’s a good bet the NFL legend, two-time Super Bowl champion, and Pro Football Hall of Famer would be happy to add that title to his football resumé.
