U.P. TRAVEL TIPS • In the U.P. you are more likely to see the Northern Lights between August and April, with the peak months being October, November, and April. • You can reach the U.P.’s easternmost hiking/

• There are over 12,000 miles of rivers and streams in the U.P. for you to explore. • Park your vehicle on the mainland and ride a ferry across to Mackinac Island. M-185 on the island is the only state highway in the U.S. where motorized vehicles are not allowed.

• With over 300 waterfalls, there are plenty to see year round in the U.P. That said, just after the ice melts is one of the best times to see all their power. • Four U.P. counties operate in the Central Time Zone: Menominee, Dickinson, Iron, and Gogebic. The other 11 counties operate in the Eastern Time Zone.
