“When I play soccer, I just feel free and alive, I get to forget for a while about the stresses of school, work and life, it’s therapeutic. Finding soccer was one of the best things that has happened to me at CBU. I feel truly blessed by this community and I hope I am able to spread that same joy to all the newcomers.” How has playing soccer helped you stay in shape and build community? “I had tossed around the idea of holding GX classes on the front lawn for any CBU members to come. I got too shy to go through with it, but my RA friend who loved my Zumba classes I use asked if I would do one for her freshmen. We set up Friday nights and they loved it so much it became a weekly thing everyone looks forward to! No one is taking it too seriously or worried about being good or looking at themselves in a mirror. They’re just happy to be there and having a good time screaming the lyrics and making fun freshman memories.” What sparked your interest in creating a Zumba class for peers to join? How have you been saying fit with gyms closed?
“It’s definitely been a challenge trying to stay fit when gyms have been closed. I just resorted to running along with some in-home conditioning. I get up around 8-8:30 am before my classes and do a short 10-minute ab workout and/or go for a 2-5 mile run. I am just trying to remain fit and keep in good habits.”
