“O ut of your vulnerabilities will come to your strength,” proclaimed the psy chologist Sigmund Freud. Adversities, trials and mishaps will happen no matter what ever people do, but seeking help can be a source of strength to overcome them. California Baptist University, new psychology clinic, Psychological Services of Riverside (PSR), seeks to be that source of help to the Riverside community. According to the clinic’s mission statement, the PSR seeks to “assist members of the community to live out the values that are most important to them, without the hindrance of cognitive, emotional and behavioral struggles.” Having opened last year, the clinic offers an educational place for doctorate, students to train while offering therapy sessions and psychological counseling with the community. Dr. Robert Pate, associate professor of psychol ogy and one of the psychologists at PSR, says the clinic seeks to serve adults and children even during COVID-19. “Under the leadership of PSR clinic director, Dr. Tim Sisemore, 15 doctoral students and several licensed psychologists, (we) meet the mental health needs of adults, children and families from all over

Riverside and the surrounding area,” Pate says. ”Our services include various forms of psycho therapy and psychological testing, with everything currently being offered via secure video sessions due to COVID-19.” For PsyD students, the clinic provides opportu nities to gain real experience and empathy toward patients. “I am very blessed to be the 2nd cohort for this clinic,” says Teal Baker, PsyD student. “It provides me with essential foundations in therapy.” While the clinic building is currently empty, therapists are hard at work to provide the mental health support needed both this year and beyond.
