Annual Yule Ball held at Downtown Disney Resort
A A ballroom filled with candlelight and holiday music is a recipe for an enchanting evening. One of the longest traditions at CBU, Yule is a festive event where students enjoy fine dining followed by a night of socializing and entertainment. Community Life works to create an immersive experience where Lancers are able to celebrate and relax before finals. Christopher Strull, senior business administration major and intern for Community Life, says, “Yule is an opportunity to gather together and celebrate the end of the semester and Christmas party. While getting to dress up, enjoy a nice meal, relax before finals, and enjoy entertainment.” After a year without Yule, this year’s event is an opportunity to remind students how it feels to dress up and appreciate each other’s company. At Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel, Yule begins with a reception where students socialize and enjoy a magician performing magic tricks. During this time students are encouraged to hang out with one another. “We want to create spaces so students can be seen and known, no matter what circle you are connected to you can come and be a part of the night,” says Isabelle Marie Sharpe, senior math major and Community Life intern.
Following the reception students move into the ballroom with dinner and a show. Aaron Weber is a comedian that delighted guests with jokes and filled the room with laughter. Dinner was served buffet-style for students to choose their meal. “I really enjoyed the entire night,” says Dean Hirsch, sophomore aviation major. “Yule was so festive and an amazing break right before finals. The venue was incredible and they served some delicious food. The best part of the night was the comedian. He was so funny, we didn’t stop laughing the entire show.” This year’s Yule aimed to bring in-person community back to life and give students a chance to gather again. Despite the hardship and difficulties that COVID-19 brought upon many students, Yule is a reminder of God’s love outpouring through fellowship. “This was my first time attending Yule and it was an unforgettable night that created a lot of memories. I will always look back on it as one of my happiest and most perfect nights with the people I care about the most,” says Zerrlina Plaza, sophomore biology major. Looking back on this year’s Yule, students can appreciate being a part of a long-standing tradition filled with laughter and love.
