Students strut their best clothes and reveal what fashion means to them

T The bright and colorful world of fashion at California Baptist University is a visual storytelling paradise for students. Lancers express themselves through fashion statements with clothing that is complemented by their eccentric style. Though generations change, fashion trends evolve with time and these students know how to create simple with trendy. As students with different styles comment on what fashion inspires them, they reflect how the trends from the ’70s to the ’90s brought a variety of ideas to make their outfits connect to their personality. Trends are part of what inspires Joshua Bailey, senior biomedical science major. “You only live once so you need to express yourself and experiment through clothes.” Bailey also examines his style through the inspiration of big-city streetwear. “I get a lot of inspiration from street fashion, different cities like New York, London. Also Instagram accounts that have streetwear fashion inspo on there.” Oftentimes experimenting with colors, fabrics, and drawing from other outfits is how many students discover a sense of self. Discovering self-expression through clothes begins with feeling comfortable and confident.

“I’m more comfortable when I like my outfit and it’s put together well,” says Payton Cordura, junior marketing major, who appreciates the uniqueness of styles from various students. Individualism can be found through fashion and Lancers have expressed their creativity in different ways that make each student unique. Describing fashion Cordura continues to describe how she her style changes as growth in herself and in the fashion world grows metaphorically with her. “Ever-changing, bold, and fun. It does change a lot because as a person you’re always growing so as I grow my fashion changes too. I am also just a bold dresser and I have a lot of fun with choosing my outfits.” Differing from Bailey and Cordura, Miguel Avalos, sophomore international studies major, describes his fashion interest in monochromatic trends. “Something that I am obsessed with are monochromatic trends because it kind of goes with your day to day and it can work for different occasions.” As students represent their own fashion, the common trend seen through 2021-2022 represents styles ranging from a variety of older looks that are brought back in today’s generation.
