and more stress, it wears us down.” Whether you have had the coronavirus or not or if you are experi- encing new and troubling symptoms like forgetfulness, mental cloud- iness; an inability to focus when reading or watching movies; and feel extremely depressed and anxious, Bregman says to consider trying a few self-care mainstays for fighting off stress and clearing the mind. “First, take some time to do a relaxing activity that you enjoy,” he says. “Listen to some good music, watch your favorite show or pick up a hobby. Second, connect while social distancing; call a friend or family member to share a few laughs and gain a new perspective on things. Third, try some calming techniques for the mind. The internet is full of videos and blogs sharing various breathing exercises, med- itations, and lessons that can give you mental clarity and a positive at- titude to carry throughout the day. Fourth, try to limit your exposure to aggravating media.” If still in need of help, then reach out to a mental health profes- sional. “I tell my patients this will pass,” he says. “Fuzzy brain is scary, but if you know what it is and take action, the lack of focus and forgetful- ness will be a distant memory worth forgetting.” No days off for the virus As many people plan for holidays and other events that involve draw- ing people close, Dumont makes it clear the virus takes no holidays. “I tell all my patients it’s going to be different this year,” she says of the holidays. “I’m recommending Zoom calls,” Dumont says. “That way you can still ‘see’ someone but not risk becoming infected. I know it’s not what we are used to or what we’d prefer, but it’s the safest option.”
