All files in protected folders will now be securely encrypted on your hard drive - and will only be uploaded to your Dropbox (or other cloud storage) fully protected. • For most users of the iPhone, the simple 4-digit pin is sufficient security as it encrypts your device, but it is easily hackable as there are only 10,000 possible combinations. And if you’ve upgraded to iOS 9, you’re now required to have 6 digits, but even those extra digits are not strong enough. As an attorney, you need to go beyond basic security to ensure attorney-client privi- lege. That’s where the complex passcode comes in. Passcodes can feature letters and are unlimited in length. Pick a combination of upper and lower cases, as well as numbers and make sure it’s at least 8 characters in length. You can test the strength of your passcode at https:// howsecureismypassword.net/. Do you also use that device to store and transmit client confidential information? Or do online banking? Free or even limited access wifi (like hotels or Oingo hotspots) are noto- riously insecure. There are a few ways to protect yourself, including using your phone as a hotspot, thus going through your mobile data provider, getting a mifi card for mobile internet access, or using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) for mobile devices like paid service “Private Internet Access” for a mere $3.33 per month. There are free ones, but they are often slow and ad-based. • Virtru (https://www.virtru.com/) is an email encryption service triggered by switching protection “ON” within a particular email. For the business edition you can revoke sent messages, restrict forwarding, and set emails and files to auto-delete. It works with Outlook 2010 and 2013, with webmail services such as Gmail and Yahoo, with Mac Mail, and on iOS and Android

You can create a bookmark of all the open tabs in Chrome by right clicking on any tab and choosing “bookmark all tabs”. Fortunately, just like MS Word, Google Docs has a templates library. Now you can easily create resumes, proj- ect timelines, invoices, and checklists with Google’s prebuilt templates. To open all the tabs again go into the bookmarked folder, right click and choose “open all bookmarks”. • While you’re probably taking advantage of Google Drive to store all kinds of files, you may not be aware you can use its built-inOCR technology to convert non- text documents like images and PDFs into editable text. Right-click on the file you want to convert and select Open with > Google Docs. A new browser tab will open with the image or PDF within a document surrounded by a blue border with the raw text beneath it. Resize the blue border to capture only the text you want, then use any of Docs tools to edit and format it. When you’re done, delete the original image/PDF from the tab and save the new text document. • In Mac and Windows if you drag a file in Explorer or Finder to another folder it moves the file. However, sometimes you just want to put a copy of the file in another folder. If you hold down inWindows or on the Mac and drag a file it will instead create a copy of the file. In Windows you want to create a shortcut to a file in another folder hold down + to create a shortcut to the file instead of moving it. • CloudFogger (https://www.cloudfogger. com/en/) provides a free online privacy tool for encrypting data in OneDrive, Dropbox, Google and other online stor- age services. Install it and Cloudfogger automatically detects cloud storage pro- viders that are installed on your system. Additionally you can select any other folder on your computer that you want
