THE YOUNG LAWYERS SECTION

Pledging pro bono is no longer enough. The legal community must target the harms of the “Big Beautiful Bill” with strategic intervention—not with rhetoric or hollow promises, but with coordinated strategy, mentorship, and meaningful outreach. Real justice doesn’t wait for policy reversals. Here is my request to you as YLS Chair: 1. Choose one affected policy area that speaks to you: housing, healthcare, civil rights, immigration, etc. 2. S elect a local legal aid group that focuses on that policy area.

Volunteer opportunities can be found at cbf.joinpaladin.com/ chicago-bar-foundation. You can also reach out to YLS Philan thropy Chair Pam Sran or the YLS Director Emily Anderson at eanderson@chicagobar.org for assistance. 3. Volunteer with that legal aid group at least two hours a month. Pro bono work sustains the belief that our judicial system is a cornerstone of our republic. No matter your experience level, no matter your skill set, as an attorney, you have the tools and the talent to help. All that remains is action.
