with colleagues outside of your own prac tice group or department. Learn to manage up. New lawyers usu ally get more autonomy in their pro bono cases than they do in their other work. It will be your responsibility to plan a strat egy for your projects, keep them moving, and consult with your supervisors when you need their help or feedback. Learn how to communicate clearly and manage expectations with your clients, colleagues, and supervisors.

Finally, advocate for your needs. Figure out what you want and ask for what you need to get there. Whether it is training, additional resources, or specific guidance, be proactive in seeking out what you need to be successful. The process of finding and managing your pro bono project is a practice in advocacy. Pro bono work offers personal fulfill ment, professional growth, and real con nection. By finding the right projects, managing your time effectively, and secur

ing the necessary support, you can make a meaningful impact on your community while building your substantive skills. If you make pro bono a regular part of your career journey, you will find it to be one of the most rewarding aspects of being a lawyer.
