Our visionary founding members included: Judge Julia Nowicki, Susan Cher- noff, Michael Poulos and Kathy Erwin, who presented the idea to the Board of Managers and asked for $500 to get the group started. Now in its 32nd year, the CBASO consists of many outstanding members who also happen to be outstand- ing musicians, including John Vishneski, Judge Diane Wood, Michael Poulos, Sara Su Jones, and many other musically gifted members. David Katz, who is a nationally renowned conductor, has the led the CBA’s orchestra since its founding. The CBASO will perform “Ode to Joy” at Orchestra Hall on Saturday, June 22, 2019. The Association’s Big Band was formed in 2000 by U.S. District Court Judge Blanche Manning (ret), John Vishneski, Beth Lodal, SteveThomas and JimMcMas- ters. The Barristers Big Band, as they are called, consists of 35 musicians who happen to be lawyers but love the rock and swing of the CBA’s Big Band. The Big Band is hosting an Octoberfest celebra- tion at the CBA on Friday, October 26 from 5:30–7:30 p.m. to help raise funds

The CBA Symphony Orchestra, CBA Big Band & CBA Chorus The Association’s Symphony Orchestra was formed in 1986 and is now 60 members

The Association’s Chorus was founded in 2006 by one of my law partners, Mark Burkland, with Rebecca Patterson and John Vishneski. The Chorus, now 75 members strong, performs at a number of Asso- ciation events and will be performing the “Ode to Joy” with the Symphony Orchestra on June 22 at Orchestra Hall. Pro Bono Week The theme of this year’s Pro Bono week is “Celebrating the Power of Pro Bono.” This year we’ll be celebrating the unique power that legal professionals have to effect change in the lives of their clients. In this edition of the CBA Record we fea- ture articles address some of the following topics: Voting Rights (particularly for dis- abled voters), Domestic Violence/#MeToo, the impact of evictions on individuals and communities, and compelling articles from lawyers about their pro bono service.
