The right to vote is fundamental to a healthy democracy. Equip for Equality’s Voting Access Chicago is a non-partisan initiative to ensure that all of Chicago’s polling places are fully accessible to voters with disabilities and older adults who want to exercise their right to vote. Learn more about volunteering on Election Day, November 6, in 4-hour shifts as part of a team identifying barriers and conducting accessibility surveys of Chicago’s polling places. 1.5 hours of CLE credit subject to approval. Get to know your fellow justice-minded colleagues and enjoy listening to stories of justice shared by volunteers from the audience. Interested in telling a story? Come prepared o share a five-minute story related to the theme (justice). Those who volunteer to tell stories will be entered in a prize raffle. Storytellers and listeners alike are encouraged to attend! Over 25,000 eviction cases are filed every year in Cook County.What does that mean, and what is the impact on families and neighborhoods? As Matthew Desmond’s book Evicted makes clear, eviction is both a cause and a symptom of poverty, and the consequences of an eviction can be long lasting and far-reaching, negatively affecting a family’s health, education, and employment, while destabilizing neighborhoods and schools. Learn how legal aid advocates in Chicago work to reduce the negative consequences of eviction and homelessness, and how you can help. 1.5 hours of CLE credit subject to approval. Presented by the CBA Young Lawyers Section, co-sponsored by the CBF and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP Meet with representatives from 40+ of Chicago’s legal aid, pro bono, community service and mentoring organizations to find an opportunity that fits your schedule, interests and goals.
