I ncreasing voter access and exploring the hidden impact of evictions on families and neighborhoods will be among the topics of important social justice conversation as the Chicago Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Foun- dation mark Pro Bono Week 2018. The annual event, which began in Chicago in 2005 and has now become a national observance, will take place Oct. 22–26 with programming designed to recognize and raise awareness of pro bono work and also encourage Chicago- area lawyers to engage in pro bono efforts to make the justice system more acces- sible for all. The events planned for the week are based upon the theme “The Power of Pro Bono.” As part of the week’s events, the CBA
survivors, I know first-hand that the commitment of pro bono legal profes- sionals can make a life-changing impact on our clients and our communities,” said Duval. “The need for legal help far outweighs the capacity of the existing legal aid system and those who do pro bono work are an integral part of ensur- ing access to justice for people in need.” “No matter where you are in your profession, from law student to seasoned veteran, there are many ways for you to get involved and resources to help you connect with the kind of pro bono opportunities that are right for you, or to deepen and broaden your connection to those organizations with which you are already involved,” addedWeathersby.

Lawyers attending the fair will be able to meet with representa- tives from more than 40 legal aid, pro bono, community service and mentor- ing organizations to learn how they can provide the type of pro bono service that best meets their interests. Margaret Duval of the Domestic Vio- lence Legal Clinic and Greta G. Weath- ersby of WEC Energy Group Inc. are serving as Co-Chairs for Pro BonoWeek 2018 and are encouraging attorneys to connect with pro bono opportunities during this important week for the legal community. “Leading an organization that sup- ports the legal needs of domestic violence
