The CBAMental Health and Disability Committee also proposed SB3657 (car ryover from last year; previously SB3812) which removes language permitting disclo sure of a record or communication without consent to an advocate consulted by a therapist or agency which provides services concerning the therapist’s or agency’s legal rights or duties in relation to the recipient and the services being provided. In addi tion, the CBA Probate Practice Committee drafted SB3473 (carryover from 2 years ago; previously HB370), which provides that no petition for the appointment of a guardian of a minor shall be filed in which the primary purpose of the filing is to reduce the financial resources available to the minor in order to cause the minor to qualify for public or private financial assistance from an educational institution. Help the JEC Evaluate Judicial Candidates

hearing child support cases might appoint counsel in civil contempt proceedings where respondents are unable to pay attor neys’ fees. The CBA’s Lawyer Referral Service schedules attorneys to be on call for one week at a time and provides a monthly calendar to the Domestic Relations Divi sion listing the attorneys available to receive appointments during the month. Fees of $75/hour for in-court work and $50/hour for outside work, once approved by the court, are reimbursed by the county. This is a great opportunity to serve both the public and your profession. Legislative Update The CBA’s legislative agenda this year includes three sponsored pieces of legis lation. The CBA Real Estate Tax Deed Subcommittee proposed two pieces of legislation. The first, HB5168, removes the limitation of using only the Sheriff to serve notice of tax sale and redemption rights by adding an option for the tax purchaser to use a special process server in Cook County. The second, HB5169 related to scavenger

The Judicial Evaluation Committee is look ing for investigators to assist in evaluating candidates for Judge in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Investigators work with the Committee in contacting references and compiling an investigative report on an assigned judicial candidate. Investigators can also participate in candidate hearings. The position provides the opportunity to speak to leading attorneys and judges around the Chicago area and is an impor tant public service.
