New YLS Chair Martin Gould, now a partner at Romanucci & Blandin, has been with the firm for his entire nine-year legal career. He devotes his prac tice to representing catastrophically injured individuals in complex litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country, including in the Chicagoland area. His practice centers on personal injury, medical malpractice, and mass tort litigation. He leads the firm’s Sexual Abuse Practice Group, where he has rep resented dozens of survivors of rape and childhood sexual abuse in cases across the country. Gould graduated from Northwestern University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and was a four-year member of the school’s var sity wrestling team. He subsequently attended the Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he served as a member of (and published an article in) the Chicago-Kent Law Review, worked as a teaching assistant, and won several CALI awards. In 2014, Gould graduated from law school cum laude. Since graduating law school and embarking on a successful legal career, he has been heavily involved in the YLS and the CBA, culminating in his election as the 2023-2024 YLS Chair. As the 53rd year of the YLS commences concurrently with the 150th Anni versary of The Chicago Bar Association and the 75th Anniversary of The Chicago Bar Foundation, Gould looks forward to celebrating the decades-long history of these organizations and their impacts on the Chicagoland legal community. He aims to continue the steadfast efforts of Daniel Berkowitz, the immediate past YLS Chair, to increase YLS engagement by building networking opportunities for YLS members, to foster camaraderie among the YLS ranks, and to build bridges with the “Big Bar.” To that end, Gould has several exciting membership and engagement initiatives planned for the YLS, including launching a Young Lawyers Network at the YLS committee level that will provide meaningful and sustained opportunities for YLS members to network with one another, develop business, and share with and refer that business to other YLS members. The YLS has thousands of members, nearly 30 substantive law committees, full-time staff, significant resources, and a wide reach. Take advantage of your membership! A few years back, YLS Chair Jonathan Amarilio founded the “@theBar Podcast,” which has become a popular national podcast where prominent attorneys and legal scholars dis cuss various legal issues and high-profile cases. We’re eager to hear the next great idea or see you at the next social! This is a year to appreciate where we have been and where we are today. It’s also a year to celebrate the future and the opportunities it will bring.
