Herman Kogan Media Awards The 29 th Annual Herman Kogan Media Awards luncheon will be held on Thurs- day, May 10, at Petterino’s Restaurant, 150 North Dearborn, Chicago. This year’s luncheon speaker will be Roe Conn, host of the Roe Conn Show on Chicago’s WGN Radio and contributor to ABC7’s Windy City Live. Roe is a regular con- tributor to ABC Radio News and has produced Emmy–winning commentaries for WBBM-TV. For the last decade, Roe has been recognized annually in Talker’ s Magazine’s “100 Most Influential Talk Show Hosts in America.” The Association’s Kogan Awards honor Chicago journalists for outstand- ing reporting in the following categories: print, broadcast and online. The awards are named after legendary and revered Chicago journalist Herman Kogan, whose career spanned 50 years. Kogan was the author of numerous books including: Lords of the Levee, Give the Lady What She Wants , Big Bill of Chicago , The Great Fire: Chicago 1871 , and The Chicago Bar Association’s First Century 1874 - 1974 . Tickets for the luncheon are $60 per person or $600 for a table of ten. This year’s Barristers Big Band Benefit Ball will be held on Friday, April 20, in the Grand Ballroom at the Standard Club. The reception and buffet dinner begin at 6:00 p.m. This year’s ball will feature two new conductors, Marek Rachelski , who works with the CBA’s Symphony Orchestra and Stephen Blackwelder , who is the conductor for the Association’s Chorus. The evening will also include dance lessons, a dance contest, and a silent auction featuring vintage wine donated by Robert Clifford , Cubs tickets, and much more. The Dickerson Awards, held on February 28, honored Lightfoot and Rogers for their commitment to achieve justice and equality across the legal profession. The awards were established in honor of the late Earl B.
