The CBA and Los Angeles County Bar Association are planning a number of collaborative programs which will be avail- able to our joint memberships during the coming bar year. Preliminary plans are underway for a Joint CBA/LACBA CLE Program; shared leadership development programming; piloting a joint national podcast on Legal Talk Network; providing CBA and LACBA members with online access to our extensive CLE programming at member rates; and extending an open invitation (home away from home) to CBA and LACBA member to visit, schedule client meetings, depositions, etc., at our respective Association Headquarters. E ach year, the Association honors lawyers and judges whose careers best exemplify U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens’ integrity and commitment to public service. Justice Stevens served as Second Vice President of the CBA until his nomination and appoint- ment to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in 1970 by President Richard M. Nixon. In 1975, President Gerald Ford nominated Justice Stevens to the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Senate unanimously confirmed his nomi- nation. Justice Stevens was sworn in at the Court on December 19, 1975 and served until his retirement in 2010. The Justice John Paul Stevens Award was established by the CBA and Justice Stevens’ former law clerks in 2000 and is the Association’s most prestigious award. Justice Stevens is the author of several books including: Six Amendments: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution, Five Chiefs and

his latest, The Making of a Justice: Reflec- tions on My First 94 years, out soon. The Justice John Paul Stevens Award Luncheon is held each year during September. Look for the e-mail announcement in August with specifics for this year’s luncheon. The Justice John Paul Stevens Award Commit- tee is accepting nominations for the 2019 Award.
