Join the CBA Lawyer Referral Service Looking to build your client base at a relatively low cost? The CBA’s Lawyer Referral Service is looking to fill openpositions on its practice area panels, especially in the areas of mental health, legal malprac- tice and unemployment compensation. Applicants must meet the requirements of the programand be approved by a screening com- mittee. To join the service, youmust be amember in good standing with the Illinois bar, have one year of general legal experience with actual courtroom experience to join the general referral panel and at least five years of concentrated experience to join a specific law panel, complete an application with letters of reference, provide proof of malpractice insurance, and maintain an office outside the home (see complete list of requirements online). The LRS annual registration fee ranges from $75 to $300 for CBA members depending upon years of experience and panels joined (rates double for nonmembers). You collect a $30 fee for the CBA from each person referred that has an office consultation and pay 15% of fees collected on retained referred matters.
