The strength of the Cardinals? “Our forwards have been a strong unit this season,” Landry said. “I’m impressed with Nate [Stafford] and freshman Abraham Munguia showing their ability to put the ball in the back of the net.” This is a team that has more experience than last year, and is emerging from a rebuilding year. They are hungry for success. “I’m excited to see these guys come together and compete,” said Landry. “They have been working hard with the 6:30 am practices, lifting weights regularly and are always willing to come to work. They are also excited to make a positive impact on our school and community. The guys have been active in Bridge City and their willingness to give back is refreshing.”

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR WILL MAKE. Bridge City soccer took their lumps last season with a young team, so its best soccer is in front of them. Cardinals coach Michael Landry has high expectations for his team, which will be headlined by sophomore Jagger Carlin and senior GK Sebastian Sandino on defense, and sophomore midfielder Austin Bellanger and the team’s leading goal-scorer sophomore forward Nate Stafford. “Last year was a rebuilding year for Cardinal soccer,” said Landry. “We started seven freshmen at one point. This year, we are bigger, faster and stronger. We’re still young, with the majority of the varsity team composed of freshmen and sophomores. With youth comes growing pains
