That’s where brokers can be invaluable in helping legislators understand what these decisions mean for employers and consumers.” Their advice to members: stay engaged, stay informed and don’t underestimate the impact of showing up. “Our members are the experts,” Crandall says. “They understand how legislation touches everyday people. That expertise gives us credibility on the Hill.” Why the PAC matters Both leaders know that not every member can attend Capitol Conference. Still, every member can make an impact through the PAC. “The larger our PAC, the more seriously we’re taken,” Crandall says. “It’s not just about the money we give; it’s about demonstrating the strength of our profession. When our PAC grows, our voice grows.” Farrell adds, “We always encourage people to join the

That’s what this network gives you.” Traditions also build that sense of belonging. “Every year at CapCon, a group of us goes to Old Ebbitt Grill,” Farrell says. “It’s become our tradition, same time, same place, different mix of people from across the country. It’s part of what makes

this work so meaningful.” Looking forward As the 2026 election cycle

Every dollar counts, and it’s the simplest way to contribute.” They frame it in relatable terms. “Two Starbucks drinks a month,” Crandall laughs. “Your career is worth that.” Beyond the numbers, they see the PAC as the connective tissue of the association. “It’s access, yes. But, it’s also relationships,” Farrell says. “It’s knowing the people in office, supporting those who understand our work and keeping that dialogue open.” The rewards of involvement go deep. “The more engaged you become in NABIP, the more lifelong friendships you form,” Farrell says. Crandall agrees. “There are people I know around the country that I never would have met without NABIP. When my dad needed help with
approaches, both leaders are focused on growth: The PAC. Participation. Member confidence in their own influence. “There’s a misconception that you need to be an expert to engage in advocacy,” Crandall says. “You don’t. You just need to care about how policy affects your clients. NABIP gives you the tools and the community to make your voice heard.” Farrell echoes that sentiment. “Whether you’re giving through the PAC or walking the halls in D.C., you’re contributing to something bigger than yourself. You’re ensuring this profession stays strong for the next generation.” That, they agree, is what keeps them showing up year after year. “Because when we’re in the room,” Crandall says, “our clients and our industry have a voice.”
