As NABIP, we call upon stakeholders, consumers, health insurance agents, policymakers, insurance carriers, pharmacy benefit managers, healthcare providers and employers to actively foster and promote diversity in healthcare teams. Diversity in healthcare is not just a buzzword; it is a crucial component of providing high quality care that meets the needs of all patients. Consider this powerful statistic: while females comprise 51% of the U.S. population, they only account for 36% of physicians. Additionally, Black, Hispanic and Native American healthcare professionals are significantly underrepresented in the field. These disparities highlight the urgent need for a more diverse healthcare workforce to serve diverse patient popula tions better and reduce health disparities.
