BIP Summer 2025
DEIB COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHTS:
Guidebook: A foundational resource that outlines NABIP’s inclusive mission, structured for use by local, state and regional DEIB chairs and members alike.
“Menopause benefits don’t have to be expensive,” Seibel says. “It’s about access. Even a modest investment — like flexible work policies or manager training — can have an enormous impact on retention.” “Start small,” adds Carleeka Basnight-Menendez, a menopause corporate consultant who began her work after her own early hysterectomy. “Even something like onboarding materials or a poster in the breakroom can signal that you’re paying attention.” She emphasizes the power of storytelling. “Once one person feels safe to speak, others do, too,” Basnight-Menendez says. “It normalizes the conversation and invites solutions.”
Faces of NABIP Campaign in Development:
A video series featuring members across backgrounds, languages and regions to reflect the full spectrum of the NABIP community. Expanded Accessibility: Closed captioning, American Sign Language support and Spanish language materials are in the works for NABIP’s Annual Convention. Why It Matters: “We want people to feel seen and welcomed, whether they’re a member or just stepping into their first NABIP event,” says NABIP DEIB committee member Lizz Ortolani. “Inclusion isn’t a trend — it’s a culture.”
TIP: Start small: Include menopause in onboarding materials, add it to your wellness calendar and train managers to lead with empathy. Normalizing the conversation is the first step to real change.
“Whatever we call it — DEIB or something else — it’s the work that matters,” DeRico adds. “Creating a culture of belonging benefits everyone we serve.” NABIP’S DEIB MISSION
