BROKER VOICES SERIES
A Amanda Brewton empowers brokers
Amanda Brewton, founder of Cleveland-based field marketing organization Medicare Answers Now, has built a career supporting insurance agents and advocating for Medicare beneficiaries. With a strong focus on education, mentorship and advocacy, she wants to reshape how brokers approach the Medicare insurance sector. “I love what I do. I get to help insurance agents achieve their dreams, provide for their families, as well as take care of all of the thousands of people those agents help,” says Brewton, a NABIP member since 2007. Brewton’s career in Medicare began with what she describes as “dumb luck.” While volunteering at the Cleveland Museum of Art, she attended a party where someone recommended she look into working for Aetna. The conversation changed her professional life. “The hiring manager at Aetna said I’d work well with brokers and sent me a job spec of all the things that I absolutely love to do,” says Brewton. “The rest is history.” Over the next 15 years, Brewton advanced through the industry, working for Anthem after leaving Aetna, before ultimately deciding to strike out on her own. “I started my own agency roughly five years ago and love every minute of it,” she says. “It’s been one hell of a ride.” From policies to empowerment Brewton transitioned from directly selling insurance policies to training and mentoring brokers early in her career. “I started as a broker rep, working with the carriers, and teaching agents how to sell and work with beneficiaries,” she says. Now, Brewton focuses on operations, development strategy and advocacy to support agents and improve outcomes for beneficiaries. “The best thing about my job is when you’re sharing in someone else’s success and having them start to see and believe in themselves,” she says. “When I get the phone call that says, ‘Guess what I did?’ That is the best thing.” Brewton’s social media presence — on linkedin. com/in/amanda-brewton and facebook.com/ medicareanswersnow — allows her to reach beyond her immediate network. “I have a strong social media presence, so I’m not just helping those agents who are in my downline, but agents
