SORTLY

Rarely do apps designed for businesses end up being incredibly useful for personal use, but Sortly does just that. Sortly is technically an inventory managing app but the app has recently been adapted for personal inventory tracking during a move. With Sortly, after logging in and creating an account, you can make folders of categories of household items you are bringing along on the move. As you pack you can update each folder with boxes and track which items (and quantity of each) are in each box. You can also pay for the subscription and generate barcodes to print and attach to the boxes so that you can track the boxes during loading and unloading. The app is marketed both for the mover and for small businesses keeping track of inventory moving in and out. Overall, it is a way to elevate your moving experience and make sure all your things arrive ready to unpack.

TASKRABBIT

TaskRabbit also has been an industry titan in the gig-labor space for a while with Angi. TaskRabbit, however, focuses more on informal services where any extra set of hands might do the trick. As an example, TaskRab bit has an official relationship with IKEA, offering vetted furniture assemblers to help build that 100-piece bed frame you might have purchased for your new home. Besides furniture assembly and disassembly, TaskRabbit providers can run errands, fold laundry, clean the house and perform more specialized tasks similar to Angi like drywall patching and painting. All communication is done in the app, and payment is processed through the app as well. TaskRabbit offers some protection and guarantees for good service, but the best way to ensure you are getting what you are paying for is by communicating clear expectations and reading the reviews of the TaskRabbit.

UPDATER

Besides the obvious physical moving of belongings from place to place, there are other smaller but crucial steps in order to complete a successful move. Things like updating your mail address with the post office, switching over internet and cable services, transferring to the correct utility company and turning them on/off, can all be headache-inducing. Furthermore, these usually get overlooked until the very end, but planning beforehand can end up saving you time and money. The app interfaces with all of these services to make the transitions happen almost all in one place. Make sure to shop around, as always, for different prices for services like cable and WiFi connection to ensure you are getting the best price but feel free to go with what the app suggests for convenience.
