I was particu larly drawn to the variety of patterned tiles not only in the city of Lisbon but every place we visited. São Jorge castle is a well-known tourist sight with the best views of the city of Lisbon.

The São Jorge castle is one of Lisbon’s most symbolic landmarks and sits on the highest point in Lisbon. Over the centu ries of occupants, it is now the home of peacocks. Our biggest excursion during our Lisbon stay was a trip to the Reserva Nat ural das Berlengas, an island that allows only 550 people at one time. After a two hour van ride and a 40 minute ferry ride, we were greeted by turquoise colored waters, craggy cliffs and a huge popula tion of seagulls. The following days were spent exploring the city of Lisbon. We had the misfortune of missing a sunset cruise we planned but were happily granted a personal cruise on the River Tagus to see the city of Lisbon by water.
