N’NASSADY KEITA In 2007, N’Nassady created “Chez Hadja Black,” percussion and dance school in Lambanyi in Conakry. He teaches, conducts workshops and hosts several ballets. Students come from countries including the United States, France, Mexico, Brazil and Japan; returning to transmit his teachings in the countries where they live.

Guinea was colonized by the Portuguese and French; and the Republic of Guinea achieved independence in 1958. The first president was Ahmed Sékou Touré, who died in 1984. Guinea has suffered military coups; and had its first democratic election in 2010. The president Alpha Condé was overthrown in 2021 by Col. Mamady Doumbouya. Guinea is bordered by Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Liberia. The country produces rice and has plantations that produce fruits. Guinea has a quarter of the world’s bauxite. Its other mineral resources are diamonds, gold and other metals. Tourists are attracted to its waterfalls, natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, such as the heritage that N’Nassady teaches. Popular sports include soccer and basketball. The Guinea-born Lamine Yamal Nasraoui Ebaba plays for Spain’s La Liga and made a spectacular score for the Spanish national team in its victory over Germany in the 2024 Euro quarterfinals.
