In addition to practice, there are plenty of self-help books and even online videos that can help you get started. If you decide you are ready for a live steer, there are facilities that hold roping practice that you can utilize. You’ll be roping and ready for a rodeo in no time.
Start practicing. It’s easiest to start on the ground, where you can practice roping around the dummy steer head. Always swing the rope at a smooth and consistent angle. Eventually you can start timing your drills and trying to move as fast as you can. Once you get that down, you can get a mechanical steer. Bring in your horse. If you think you have it down, and have done your drills properly, you can bring in your horse to get to the real deal. You may have to

You can easily get started for less than $100. All you need is a dummy head, hay bale, gloves and a 30-35 foot rope. Build your loop. Build and refine your coil and loop. Once you get it down, you will be ready to begin swinging.
