CONVENTION COVERAGE 2026
RECOGNIZING SERVICE, INNOVATION, AND IMPACT (CONT.)
flock productivity while partnering with scientists and Extension teams nationwide to turn findings into practical tools producers can use. The Distinguished Producer Award celebrated Brian, Carolyn, and Brandon Bitner for progressive, data-driven production and leadership in Utah and nationally, main taining their own herds while representing a significant share of Utah’s commercial ewes and using NSIP elite rams and performance data to guide selection. The Shepherd’s Voice Award for Media recognized Andy Schwab and Northern Ag Network for consistent coverage across the West, showing up with interviews, sponsorships, and on site presence because “size is no barrier” when it comes to sharing producers’ stories. The Wool Excellence Award, the week’s top wool honor, recognized longtime Pendleton Woolen Mills wool buyer Dan Gutzman, presented by Terry Martin of Annodyne Wool. A former ASI Wool Roundtable Chair and following in the footsteps of his father (a past re cipient), Gutzman was celebrated for decades of service to American wool and the growers behind every clip. Across the stage, one message kept repeating: gratitude. For family, for mentors, and for the close knit commu nity that makes this work possible.
