ALDINE ISD BOARD TRUSTEES GIVE GREEN-LIGHT TO A NUMBER OF BOND PROJECTS

Aldine ISD is making district improve ments as work is unfolding resulting from the district’s $1.8 billion bond voters approved in November 2023. A number of bond projects were given the green light to move forward, as indicated at the recent Bond Oversight Committee meeting. Aldine ISD Board of Trustees approved construction, maintenance, and tech nology projects at the end of the 2023 24 school year. The district’s larger projects – Aldine Middle School, Carver High School, and the new Education and Performing Arts Center – are also moving forward following the approval of architectural firms for each project. The three larger projects are now in the program development phase. For the rebuild of Aldine Middle School, the Board of Trustees approved MWA

forward to engaging the community to develop buildings that will serve stu dents for generations to come.” Other 2023 bond projects approved to move forward and work has started or has been initiated under Prop A: • Districtwide replacement of old and damaged coils for HVAC systems • Science labs and safety • Fencing • Security film • New digital marquees • Laptops for teachers and campus staff • 75” and 86” ViewSonic Interactive displays to replace outdated Promet hean boards • Quick – Sense USB-C charging hubs for high school students • Chromebooks for high school students • 10th generation iPads for EC/PK/K • High school laptops for Victory Early College

Architect. The firm has worked with the district in the past with notable projects such as Blanson CTE, the Aldine Edu cation Center, and Nimitz Ninth Grade. For Carver High School, the board voted to approve Stantec, who was the architect assigned to the new Thorne Stadium. Lastly, the new Education and Performing Arts Center will be designed by PBK Architects. PBK is no stranger to working with K-12 Education. The firm has many projects under its belt in the Greater Houston area, including the rebuilding of Bellaire High School in HISD, Cy-Fair ISD’s Visual and Perform ing Arts Center, and the Alief Center for Advanced Careers.

which exposed high school students to HEAL’s five career pathways, ignited excitement and hope for the future of healthcare. The HEAL Program is the district’s latest Choice School/CTE option. The HEAL Program, housed at the former Nimitz Ninth Grade campus site, is sup ported by a groundbreaking $31 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthro pies. This significant investment, the largest private foundation grant in our school district’s history, is a testament to the foundation’s vision to connect health and education systems.

It was the school’s first ceremony to give students their scrubs; this is the program’s first official year. Chief Trans formation Officer Adrian Bustillos said they wanted to celebrate the students’ endless possibilities in the medical field. “The ceremony recognized the stu dents’ hard work these past few months and encouraged them to keep pushing toward their goal,” said Bustillos. HEAL Program students have been actively engaged since the summer, seizing unique opportunities such as Memorial Hermann’s Summer Infusion Experience. This experience,

During the fall semester, 76 ninth grad ers from the HEAL Program at Nimitz High School achieved a significant mile stone by earning their medical scrubs through dedication and effort. After weeks of basic core instruction, shadowing, and practicing simple proce dures at Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital, the students celebrated a mile stone with the scrub ceremony, getting closer to pursuing a medical career. Memorial Hermann educators hosted the inaugural Commitment to HEAL Ceremony “From Classroom to Care.”
