Aldine ISD Spring 2023

AISD NEWS FEATURE HEAD START, PREKINDERGARTEN, AND KINDERGARTEN PREREGISTRATION FOR 2023-2024 NOW OPEN

Pre-enrollment is now open for eligible students entering the Aldine Indepen dent Schools District for the first time in three grades — Head Start, prekin dergarten (PreK3 and PreK4), and kindergarten. The deadline to pre-enroll students in Head Start, PreK, and kin dergarten is June 9, 2023. The early registration process gives parents information to ease the enroll ment process. It also assists the district in planning for enrollment growth and staffing needs. 12 AISD Schools Offer Full-Day Head Start Program (ages 3-5) The district offers a federally-funded full-day (8:15 a.m.-3:40 p.m.) Head Start classroom-based program housed in all 12 early childhood (EC), prekinder garten (PreK), and kindergarten (K) campuses commonly known as primary schools and the Aldine ISD Child Devel opment Center. Head Start Eligibility Guidelines • Head Start services are available to families that meet the Poverty Guidelines. See the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) webpage for guidelines. • Aldine ISD grants Head Start eligi bility to families that meet any of the following categories: • The child to be enrolled is in foster care. • Someone in the family receives public assistance, including the TANF Program, the Supplemental Security Income benefits (SSI), or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). • The family is homeless. 3 Schools With Full-Day PreK3 Pro grams — Students Must Be Zoned to the Schools Three Aldine ISD campuses — Griggs, Keeble, and Stovall — offer the district’s preschool for three-year-olds (PreK3) program. Pre-registering Eligible Students in the PK3 Program:

• Families can pre-register their chil dren who will turn 3 by September 1 of the current year. Children must also qualify to attend PreK programs offered for free and meet the eligibili ty criteria. • Your child must qualify for PK3 and live in the PK3 campus attendance zone. Children who meet these qualifications will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. • If you live outside the PK3 campus attendance zone, your child will be waitlisted until August 1. If seats are available, then students on the wait list may be enrolled in order of the waitlist. • Again, whether zoned to the school or not, all students must meet age criteria and eligibility requirements. 12 Early Childhood Schools Offer PreK4 and Kindergarten • PreK4 Eligibility: Families can pre-en roll their children who will turn 4 by September 1 of the current year. They must also qualify to attend PreK pro grams offered for free and meet the eligibility criteria. • Pre-enrolling Into Kindergarten: Stu dents new to Aldine ISD who will turn 5 by September 1 of the current year can pre-register for kindergarten. Current students attending PreK in Aldine going into kindergarten in the 2023-2024 school year do not need to pre-enroll. • Currently Enrolled PreK Students Do Not Need to Pre-Enroll for Kindergarten: Aldine ISD students presently enrolled in prekinder garten do not need to pre-enroll for kindergarten. The deadline to pre-enroll students in PreK and kindergarten is June 9, 2023. All currently enrolled PreK students are considered returning Aldine ISD students. Instead, these families will complete an Annual Update Form online for returning students in August before school starts in fall 2023. This form will ensure Aldine ISD has the most up-to-date information on file for your chil

dren, such as contact information in an emergency or school closing notification. To complete the Annu al Update Form in August, families must have their Home Access Center (HAC) account. So Many Choices Which is My Child’s School?: Families can visit the School Locator web page to find their children’s zoned campuses to attend in their neighborhood. Families Have Choices Between Neigh borhood, Dual Language Schools, and Choice School Options: Families have neighborhood schools zoned to where their children can attend schools with high-quality educational experiences or choose from the many Choice School options. Students do not need to be zoned to Choice Schools, but they must apply. They can also choose to have their child attend a school with a dual language (English/Spanish) program. Students must start the program in kindergarten. Families should consider that seating is limited due to these programs’ popu larity. Aldine ISD families still have time to apply for admission to Choice School programs for the 2023-2024 school year. Do You Have Questions or Need Sup port? Visit AldineISD.org/primary .
