Adirondack Peeks Summer 2023
CLUB NEWS Join 46er Trail Crew in 2023 Mark Simpson, 6038V 2023 Trail Crew season is upon us soon, and what a fun and productive year this will be. We have the schedule and all sign-up information posted on the main 46er website here: https://adk46er.org/trail-crew/ Anyone venturing on the Calamity Brook Trail for the first one and a half miles can see our work from the last three years. The ten-foot-wide trails with mud holes are gone! This year, we will push this hardening further out once again, someday (soon, we hope) reaching the lengthy mud hole around the Henderson Monument area! But we need help. Please review the schedule on the website and see if you can join us for a weekend—or just a day. You won't regret it. Trail Crew volunteers are wonderful. We even supply free camping for some of the weekends! If you have friends that are not registered 46ers, they are welcome as well. Being a 46er is not a requirement for signing up for Trail Crew. All we're looking for is the spirit of giving back—and we have a heck of a lot of fun doing it, too!
All our work is done in full cooperation and guidance of the NYSDEC Foresters. The work we do is needed and demonstrates the club's real heart. Our efforts are the difference between being able to walk in the woods on a hardened, easy-to-negotiate trail versus slopping in boot-sucking mud, slipping in an erosion washout, or walking around a fallen tree. We pride ourselves in our excellence in our efforts. Everyone participates up to their own level on trail crew; we don't ask for anyone to do something they cannot. But we cannot do this without our most precious resource: our volunteers. All tools, training, and guidance are supplied by the Trail masters. See you there! Your 2023 Trailmasters,

Adopt-a-Highway Program
Being a 46er is more than just hiking all the high peaks. A 46er is a friend and steward of the mountains and it shows in the various ways we give back to the trails and the Ad irondack community. Become a vol unteer!
The 46ers have adopted three, two-mile-long sections of highway on Route 73. To fulfill our adoption agreement, we must complete at least four cleanup outings a year. In 2022, We coordinated eight outings and 46er volunteers cleaned up over 32 miles along Route 73 equating to 52 bags of garbage! Are you willing to help us? For more information or to get on the volunteer list, email Lee at adoptahighway46@gmail.com, or visit the website for more information. https://adk46er.org/ adopt-a-highway/ 2023 remaining dates for volunteering: July 28th, Friday August 25th, Friday
On April 26, 2023, we cleaned up eight miles of highway along Route 73 which now spotless thanks to the efforts of (from L to R): Lee Nesbitt #5931W, Paul Held #6110, Michele Kaminsky #7675, Bob George #12678, Dave Pawlick #12803, and Donna Merrill #10361W!
