MISS AUSTEN ON MASTERPIECE

This four-part series takes a literary mystery—Cassandra Austen notoriously burning her famous sister Jane’s letters—and reimagines it as a fascinating, witty and heart-breaking story of sisterly love. The drama begins in 1830, a while after Jane has died. Cassandra races to see her friend Isabella who is about to lose her home. Cassandra is ostensibly there to help, but her real motive is to find a stash of private letters which, in the wrong hands, could destroy Jane’s reputation.

Miss Austen on Masterpiece premieres May 4 at 8 p.m.

NATURE: HUMMINGBIRDS OF HOLLYWOOD Amid the glamour of Hollywood, Terry Masear finds herself on a transformative journey as she nurtures wounded hummingbirds, unraveling a visually captivating and magical tale of love, fragility, and healing. Meet Cactus, Jimmy, Wasabi, Alexa and Mikhail, Masear’s diminutive patients, as we celebrate their small victories while lamenting their tiny tragedies.

Nature: Hummingbirds of Hollywood airs May 7 at 7 p.m.

FROM THE HEARTLAND

In 2014, a devastating flood swept over the small town of Luverne, Minnesota, destroying public infrastructure, personal property and some of the most fertile farmland in the country. The aftermath left two farmers, Shawn Feikema and his brother, Mike, wondering whether they should continue the traditions handed down by the generations of farmers before them, or try something new in order to save the land.

MILES, MORALE AND MEMORIES: BOB HOPE AND WORLD WAR II Legendary entertainer Bob Hope and his troupe of performers traveled more than 80,000 miles during World War II to entertain the troops. Using animated maps and interviews with Hollywood historians, authors and combat veterans, this program examines Hope’s impact on World War II, and why President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked some of Hollywood’s top stars to hold a microphone instead of a gun in the war.
