Frequently Asked Questions What’s the difference between a family and an adult trip? Family trips are tailored specifically for families with children ages 7 and up (6 and under are permitted on custom tours). These trips include an extra guide just for the kids, van, special equipment (e.g., tag-along bikes), and separate kid-friendly activities, so grownups can enjoy some adult time. Adult trips are designed for travelers 16 and up and include longer, more rigorous options for activities such as hikes, bike rides, and river rafting, along with special ‘grown-up’ perks like private wine tastings, cooking demonstrations and, of course, an ample amount of quiet time. *As noted, there are no age restrictions on Custom or Exclusive departures. How large are your groups? Austin Adventures promises an intimate experience with maximum flexibility and personal attention. Our 6:1 guest-to- guide ratio is the lowest in the industry. On most trips, we take 12-18 guests with 2-3 guides. On family adventures, we can accommodate a maximum of 18 guests, and we include 3 guides, one of whom is dedicated to the kids. Custom/ Exclusive trips are totally flexible and range from 5 to 50+ people. Are there any trips and departure dates not mentioned here in the catalog? Yes! We have many trips that depart weekly (e.g., in Chile, Thailand, and on our Scotland itinerary) – please visit our website for details. We also have several itineraries that are featured only on our website (e.g., while we’ve highlighted 8 here, you can choose from 14 total Africa tours online). What’s included in the price? Most Austin Adventures trips are designed to be all-inclusive, apart from the freedom of one meal on your own. Trip prices typically cover: Double occupancy rooms with private baths / All meals and snacks except one dinner on your own (please refer to specific pre-trip planners for exceptions) / Professional/first-aid certified guides and local partners and experts / Bikes, kayaks, helmets/other necessary equipment / Vehicle support during the trip / Luggage service / Austin Adventures t-shirt, water bottle, luggage tags / Detailed pre-departure and packing information / All taxes, dining and housekeeping gratuities, local partner/expert gratuities, national park entrance/permit fees (unless noted).

What’s not included? Typical trip exclusions are: Gratuities to Austin Adventures guides / Alcoholic beverages and related gratuities (beer/wine is included on some trips – see planners for details) / One dinner (unless noted otherwise) / Specific meals and lunches / Pre- and post-trip accommodations and associated expenses / Air and land transportation to and from host cities / In-country air on international itineraries (unless noted) / Airport departure taxes and some park entry fees / Personal travel and medical insurance / Optional activities and spa services / Items of a personal nature / E-bikes and tandem bikes. Do you offer child discounts? Children (age 7 and up) who share accommodations with one or more adults will receive discounts of 10 to 20%, depending upon the trip. How difficult and flexible are trip activities? This is your vacation, and flexibility is the name of the game. We’ll adjust trip activities according to your abilities and desires. A typical day may consist of a 3 to 6-mile hike or a bike ride ranging anywhere from 15 to 50 miles – your pace and distance are yours to decide. What about single and solo travelers? Many of our guests travel alone. Solo travelers have the option of paying a single supplement for a private room throughout the trip. However, at your request, we’ll try to match you up with a suitable roommate. If you book 90 days or more from your date of travel and we can’t find you a suitable roommate, we’ll waive the customary single supplement surcharge on most departures. We recommend talking to one of our Adventure Consultants if this is something you’re interested in. Will I have time to spend on my own? Though our days are busy, there’s always downtime to shop, relax, or visit the spa. This is your vacation, so if at any time during your trip, Absolutely. Our past guests are some of our best sources of information. Just give us a call and we’ll provide references for the specific trip you’re interested in. How far in advance do I need to reserve my trip? The further in advance you book, the better selection of dates you’ll have. On most trips, you’ll want to book at least 4 to 6 months out. For holiday trips, you’ll want to reserve 8 to 12 months out. Rest assured though, we are also masters at accommodating last-minute reservations! you feel like putting your feet up, the choice is yours! Can I talk to someone who’s taken a trip with you?
