BULB

THE FTC LIGHTING FACTS LABEL

Lighting Facts Per Bulb

VOLTS: Electrical supply required by the bulb. The volt rating indicates the maximum line voltage on which the bulb should be operating. BRIGHTNESS (LUMENS): The amount of light produced by the bulb, measured in all directions from the light center. AVERAGE LIFE HOURS: Number of hours that the average bulb can be expected to last. Based on the hours at which 50% of a test group of bulbs have failed when operated at nominal voltage and current. Life = 3 (hours) x 365 (days) =1,095 hours per year

Advantages: Most energy efficient; longest life; no warm- up time; bulb life is not impacted by vibration or frequent switching

COLOR TEMPERATURE: The apparent color of the light emitted from the bulb. Alower color temperature (2,000K–3,000K) is a warmer, yellow light while a higher temperature (>4,000K) is a cooler, blue light. ENERGY USED (WATTS): Units of energy required to power the bulb. The wattage of the bulb does not determine the amount of light produced. COLOR ACCURACY (CRI): The ability of the bulb tocorrectly render the colorof an object. The higher the index, which caps at 100, themore correctly the coloris rendered.

Disadvantages: High initial price; rapidly evolving technology
