For Your Information Replace Capacitor When Replacing a Defective Motor When replacing a defective motor, it is important to also replace the capacitor. Motors rarely operate effectively with a worn or defective capacitor. If the motor does run, it will operate as if overloaded. The motor speed will be low and it will overheat. This activates the overload protector, causing the motor to cycle on and off. Replacing the capacitor is an inexpensive way to ensure long motor life. Prevent Capacitor Shock CAUTION: A high quality capacitor can hold a charge for a long time. To prevent a shock, the terminals of the capacitor should be shorted out before its removal.
