TeamMembers specialize in one of four areas: Academic Coaching, College Exploration, My Road Coaching and Community Resource Coordination. AREA OF SERVICE: Phoenix, AZ; Baltimore, MD; New Orleans, LA; Cleveland, Akron, and Cincinnati, OH; Denver, CO; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; Kansas City and St. Louis, MO; New York, NY; Pittsburgh, PA; Orange County and San Francisco, CA LENGTH OF SERVICE: Long-term positions are for 12 months, and members can serve more than one term. Also, limited opportunities for one-time and group volunteer events, and summer internships. REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university, or a high school diploma with at least two years experience. For live-in positions members should be willing to reside in a Boys Hope Girls Hope home, commit to a year of service, have a valid driver's license and be willing to obtain CPR and first aid certification. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: All full-time volunteer and AmeriCorps positions receive a bi-weekly stipend and health insurance. Some positions provide travel costs to and from the location of service. Volunteers who live in our homes as part of their position receive room and board. Those eligible for and enrolling in AmeriCorps programs receive AmeriCorps benefits. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Those living in our homes as part of their service with the National Volunteer Corps receive a private bedroom in one of our residential programs. Members of the AmeriCorps Go! Teams provide their own housing. SIZE OF PROGRAM: We have 14 Affiliate offices, 30 homes, and two boarding school dormitories in the United States. Our goal is to place one volunteer per home and one per office. TRAINING: National Orientation, depending on the position, will last for three to seven days. We hold a mid-year renewal retreat for National Volunteer Corps members. We provide monthly volunteer conference calls and access to online training to members of both programs. Placement sites provide local orientation, certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for those working directly with youth, and ongoing training to satisfy state licensing requirements (i.e., mandated reporter). APPLICATION DEADLINE: We will accept applications on a rolling basis, but our preference is for all members to start by the middle of July so they can attend orientation prior to the start of the new academic year. GOAL OF PROGRAM: Sharing God's love through acts of service; caring for creation; working for peace; advocating justice; serving human need. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: All projects fall under one of the following categories: children, youth/young adults, senior citizens, general community services, farm workers, disabled persons, agriculture, hunger/homelessness, prisoners and the prison system, refugees, peace/justice, domestic violence, housing, healthcare, outdoor ministries, community organizing/development/advocacy, education/ training, environment, congregations or miscellaneous. AREA OF SERVICE: Approximately 20 states in the US and 20 different countries. LENGTH OF SERVICE: One year for US placements, two years for international projects. REQUIREMENTS: To serve in U.S.: Volunteer must be 18 or older with high school diploma. To serve overseas: Volunteer must be at least 21 years old with college degree or similar life experience. FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS: Room, board, monthly stipend and health insurance provided. Transportation to project after orientation and home from project after one's term is completed. LIVING ARRANGEMENTS: Depends on project - community or group, individual, on-site, with family. SIZE OF PROGRAM: Approximately 50 current volunteers at any time. The number of volunteers at each location depends on the project. TRAINING: Three-week orientation held every summer, fall and winter. On-site training at each project. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Six weeks before each orientation. Brothers' Volunteer- Discernment Community AFFILIATIONS: Roman Catholic, Brothers of the Sacred Heart GOAL OF PROGRAM: This all-male program offers volunteers the opportunity for service while participating in the community life, spirituality, and mission of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Volunteers are given individual guidance in their personal and spiritual development in order to discern a possible vocation to the religious life. TYPE OF PLACEMENT: A variety of ministries with young people; GED programs; teaching life skills through computer-assisted graphic design, silk screening, and embroidery trades; teaching and coaching in high school.
