YEWS TAXUS The yews are particularly noteworthy for their rich, dark green foliage, which holds its color throughout the year. They grow rather slowly, tolerate shearing well and are especially useful for foundation plantings. Yews actually thrive in shade and in this respect, differ from other evergreens. They are the best evergreen for shady places. Yews demand a well-drained site. NOTE: All yews can be maintained smaller by pruning back the new growth each year. They will grow larger if not pruned. P. omorika SERBIAN SPRUCE

A dense, low-growing yew which branches freely. The bright-green foliage turns dark-green when grown in shade. It requires a minimum of trimming and is highly resistant to winter burn. Requires a well- drained site. New growth is lemony yellow but ages to a dark green. 3-4'x4-6' Zones 4-7 T. cuspidata 'Capitata' UPRIGHT YEW

NEW! Possibly the best Spruce for ornamental planting. Serbian Spruce is a slender, upright grower with graceful, drooping branches.. Needles are dark green with white undersides and a little shorter and not as sharp as a Colorado Spruce. Prefers a moist but well drained soil but will tolerate some clay. Will also tolerate or even prefer light shade. This is not a wind break evergreen, but is used for it's beauty and belongs framing the garden. Highly recommended. 50-20' Zones 4-7 P. glauca 'Pendula' WEEPING WHITE SPRUCE

This selection has a great dark green color all year long. Can be used as a foundation plant, hedge plant or as a specimen. Prefers a shaded or somewhat shaded location. Best sited out of winter wind. All yews can be maintained smaller by pruning back the new growth each year. 4-5'x6-8' Zones 4-7 T. cuspidata 'Nana' DWARF YEW BREVIFOLIA

A broad, pyramidal yew with dark-green foliage which retains its color well during winter months. Requires yearly pruning to maintain the conical shape. "Matched" plantings are difficult to achieve as each plant may respond to a slightly different environment with a unique shade of color or growth rate. Requires a well-drained site. 5-8' Zones 4-7

An excellent dwarf evergreen--a low, bushy variety. Very compact and dense with thick, dark-green, waxy foliage. Very slow growing. Very hardy. Easily contained to a small evergreen accent. Highly resistant to winter-burn. 3-6' Zones 4-7

Here is a plant for you! Weeping White Spruce will not overgrow your garden. Slow growing to 30' tall but will only grow about 8' wide. Wonderful tight form with short gray needles on drooping branches. Very refined and graceful. This plant will fit into a corner or is excellent tucked into the border or anywhere you need a vertical accent. What a great plant for a tight fit! 20-30' Zones 2-8
