This is a unique perspective of a swimming photo, and a testament to the photographer’s planning! The photographer used an underwater camera and got right on the edge of the surface so it was possible to see both the swimmer and her reflection above. The image captures the swimmer’s shadow below in the window of light. All of this had to have been planned and waited for, which resulted in an incredible shot! The photographer also kept the swimmer sharp and in focus – you can see the details of her nail polish and the bubbles around her, which create a sense of speed. The lane stripes on the pool floor create leading lines while the swimmers in the background add context.
